AP Euro.
A  crash course in art and history.

We eat.

We walk among historic paths.

 Eat, walk.
It's an art in itself here  ....
Thank you Sally for this gem.

On a house we pass,
there is a protected
ancient, historic piece of art.
The history here is inspiring.

Pam and I
have always known
we have twins for husbands.
More history in the making.
Including Day 4 of Chris' shorts.
At least he is washing them at night.

 Oh, and then,
 the doors.
I am enamored by doors.
Will paint a collection one day.
So Italian, so rich in history.

The path continues.

Historic doorbell.

 Grapes in a garden.

 The views are amazing.
We can imagine the history before us.

How old is this wall?
Layers of history showing.

It just keeps getting better.
 Tiny shortcuts.

We end with lunch of course.
Sally's lead.
Brie fried in truffle oil.

Sally sets us up with this amazing
American Guide.
Alexandria is smart,
she knows her history.
So interesting.
We start at the Bargello. circa 1225.
Palace. Politics. Popes.

We move on to
Medici Chapels and
Church of San Lorenzo
Powerful family rich in history.
Michelangelo got around.

Most of his pieces are unfinished.
No suprise. as he was
working on so many at once.
He was something.

His style was very  stark.

Oh, and then, she showed us David.
Michaelangelo was so gifted.
David was completed before he was 30.
Artists imitating Michelangelo's
impassioned and highly personal style
resulting Mannerism,
the next major movement in Western art
after the High Renaissance.

So, of course more walking.
Which means more eating.
Again, Sally makes reservations
for us at a popular Palazzo Pitti bistro.
We are spoiled.

So much history in Firenze.

And then, we are making our own.
We give up hope on our luggage.
Chris buys a new shirt.
I buy makeup.
Day 4, no hairbrush.
Historic.
